5th BIENNIAL OF STAGE DESIGN

The Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade hosted the Biennial of Stage Design for the fifth time. The Biennial selection was more extensive than ever, comprising 464 artworks and six graduate works by students of the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, presented in the five principal categories (event design, applied stage arts, craftsmanship, performing space and promotion of performing events) and numerous sub-categories. The exhibition was accompanied by special promotional displays in twelve shop windows in the Knez-Mihailova Street in Belgrade. |

This time the Grand Prix of the Biennial of Stage Design was awarded to theatre director Egon Savin for his "exceptional contribution to stage visual culture" as an example of more than successful collaboration between the director and numerous set and costume designers and technicians, a collaboration that led to remarkable artistic achievements.
A special award was received by the Executive Board of the Belgrade City Assembly for its overall contribution to technical production and working conditions in Belgrade theatres.
Winners of the awards in the main categories of the 5th Biennial were:
- Sinisa Ilic, in the category Event Design / set design
- Milena Jeftic Niceva Kostic, in the category Event Design / costume design
- Vladimir Pejkovic, in the category Event Design / Music
- Creative team of the production "Pseci valcer" (Yugoslav Drama Theatre), in the category Applied Stage Arts / lighting design
- Nikola Komazec, Tihomir Mackovic, Borislav Stojiljkovic and Vladimir Radovanovic (Theatre ˝Bosko Buha˝), in the category Craftsmanship
- Dragoslav Gavrancic, Predrag Panic, Ivan Vasic and Miroljub Stamenkovic (Belgrade Drama Theatre), in the category Craftsmanship
- Miodrag Stevancevic, Aleksandar Spasic, Nevenko Dukic, Nikola Komazec and Dejan Jovanovic (Theatre ˝Dusko Radovic˝), in the category Craftsmanship
The Biennial Jury once again decided not to grant awards in the categories Performing Space and Promotion of Performing Events.
The tributes of the 5th Biennial of Stage Design were awarded to: Marija Kalabic /set design/, Srdjan Cvetkovic /lighting design/, Theatre ˝Bosko Buha˝ for achievements in sound design, Workshops of the National Theatre, Belgrade /craftsmanship/ and Nevenka Vidak and Mira Erceg /performing space/.
Special Biennial tributes for achievements in technical production were awarded to Belgrade Drama Theatre, Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad and National Theatre / Nepszinhaz in Subotica.
Special tribute for educational work and promotion of students’ works in costume design was awarded to Ljiljana Petrovic, Docent at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.
