4th BIENNIAL OF STAGE DESIGN

In the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade, YUSTAT presented the national theatre production at the Main Biennial exhibition for the fourth time. The exhibition was accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue, which presented 330 works. The main categories of the Biennial remained unchanged, as well as the selection procedure. The most successful selected works were on display at the Main exhibition.

The Jury decided not to award the Grand Prix of the Biennial of Stage Design this time, nor the awards in the categories Performing Space and Promotion of Performing Events.

 

 

 

 

The following artists received awards in the main categories of the Biennial:

- Marija Kalabic, in the category Event Design / set design
- Isidora Zebeljan, in the category Event Design / music
- Milan Kica Mihajlovic, in the category Applied Stage Arts / lighting design
- Zoran Jerkovic and Zoran Ivanov, in the category Applied Stage Arts / sound design
- Nijaz Memis, in the category Craftsmanship / make up and wig
- Desa Kovac, in the category Craftsmanship / special elements of costume and props
- Milan Ciric, Milan Kica Mihajlovic and Aleksandar Milovanovic, in the category Craftsmanship / special elements of sets and props

Tributes of the 4th Biennial of Stage Design were awarded to: Angelina Atlagic /Event Design – set and costume design/, Jelica Radovanovic and Dejan Andjelkovic /Event Design – set and costume design/, Dragica Pavlovic /Event Design – costume design/, Maja Studen /Event Design – costume and puppet design/, band The Gift /Applied Stage Arts – applied music and live performance/ and Zoran Kosanovic /Craftsmanship - footwear/.

Special tribute was awarded to Milan Ciric, stage manager, and Chamber Opera ‘Madlenianum’ for their achievements in technical production.

The Biennial programme was again expanded with a series of public events: lectures and presentations by Leon Brauner /USA/, John Mayberry /Canada/, Pamela Howard /UK/ and Wolfgang Storch /Germany/. YUSTAT welcomed for the first time in Belgrade members of the Governing Board of OISTAT /International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians/, based in Amsterdam. The members of the Governing Board were seven prominent personalities of OISTAT (from Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, Netherlands, South Korea, Canada and USA) and chairmen of OISTAT commissions for education, scenography, architecture, technology, publishing and communication, theory and history of theatre. The OISTAT Commission for Publication and Communication / PCC / meeting was hosted by YUSTAT for the second time, attended by members from the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Germany, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria and the hosts. CLIO and YUSTAT published Pamela Howard's book 'What is Scenography?' and the public performance 'Scenomanifesto' directed by Ms Howard, concluded her workshop with MA students of the University of Arts and of the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, as well as the program of the 4th Biennial of Stage Design.
