3rd BIENNIAL OF STAGE DESIGN
7 - 30 September 2000
Museum of Applied Art, Belgrade
Various venues in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Subotica

For the third time in the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade, YUSTAT presented Yugoslav stage production at the Main exhibition of the Biennial of Stage Design.

This exhibition was of particular importance for YUSTAT as it illustrated the national theatre production over an extremely difficult period, which included NATO intervention in FRY.

Despite the sweeping crisis in the country, the Biennial selection was considerably enlarged in comparison to previous exhibitions. YUSTAT’s board selected 292 works in the five principal categories (event design, applied stage arts, craftsmanship, performing space and promotion of performing events), presented in the Biennial’s catalogue.

The Grand Prix of the 3rd Biennial of Stage Design was awarded to Miodrag Tabacki, set and costume designer, for the "richness, diversity and complexity of his two years’ outstanding opus" whose quality strongly countered general decline in Yugoslav theatre production.

- Zoran Eric, theatre composer, and
- Centre for Cultural Decontamination and the festival City Theatre Budva received
Special Biennial awards for achievements in technical production.

The following artists received Biennial awards in the main categories:
- Jelena Stokuca (costume design), Juraj Fabri (set design) and Isidora Zebeljan (music), in the Event Design category
- Atelje 212 lighting team, in the category of Applied Stage Arts - Lighting Design
- Workshops of the National Theatre, Belgrade in the category Craftsmanship
- Festival BELEF in the category Promotion of Performing Events

Along with a number of public presentations and lectures within conference programs, YUSTAT presented works by the young Yugoslav designer Aleksandra Zdravkovic in Novi Sad and exhibition of entries to YUSTAT's student competition "Balkan City – A Stage for the XXI Century" in the Centre for Cultural Decontamination in Belgrade.
