2nd BIENNIAL OF STAGE DESIGN

The main exhibition of the 2nd Biennial of Stage Design was an overall presentation of different aspects of performing events, from set and costume design, applied theatre arts and craftsmanship, architecture and design of performing venues, to Web presentations and traditional means for advertising art events. 203 projects were included in the Biennial selection, demonstrating the diversity of production presented within the five principal categories: event design, applied stage arts, craftsmanship, performing space and promotion of performing events.

Grand Prix of the 2nd Biennial of Stage Design was awarded to the Workshop 301 (Radionica 301) in the category of Performing Space, for the multimedia event "W.R.: 301", a part of the project "Lust for Life", for establishing new criteria and conceptual, artistic and performing qualities through transformation of performing space (in this case, the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade).

Special Biennial awards went to:
- Angelina Atlagic, in the category of Event Design
- "SKART" group, in the category of Promotion of Performing Events

Winners of the Biennial awards in the main categories were:
- Milena Jeftic Niceva Kostic, in the category of Event Design / costume design
- Isidora Zebeljan, in the category of Event Design / music
- Milan Mihajlovic and Aleksandar Jocic, in the category of Applied Stage Arts / lighting design.

In addition to the main exhibition, the Biennial programme was expanded through exhibitions, seminars, lectures, promotions and other events, with international guests invited to present contemporary trends in design and production of stage events in the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain etc. Among others, the Biennial welcomed Pamela Howard (UK), Head of the post-graduate course in scenography at the Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London and art director of Scenofest, Michael Ramsaur (USA), president of OISTAT Education Commission and professor of lighting design at the Stanford University, San Francisco, and Ed Beentjes, production manager of the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam.
