The first Biennial exhibition organized by YUSTAT and the Museum of Applied Art presented 135 works. A considerable number of artists received awards and public acclaim:

† Zivorad Zira Savic, stage painter and sculptor, Yugoslav Drama Theatre (Grand Prix of the Biennial of Stage Design) awarded for his overall contribution to theatre aesthetics and technology

- Bojana Nikitovic, Award in the category of Event Design / costume design
- Zoran Eric, Award in the category of Event Design / music
- Djuro Sanader, Award in the category of Applied Stage Arts / sound design
- Tihomir Mackovic, Award in the category of Craftsmanship
- Ivana Vujic and "Aeroplan bez motora" project team, Award in the category of Performing Space
- SKART group, Award in the category of Promotion of Performing Events

1st Biennial of Stage Design tributes were awarded to Darko Nedeljkovic (set design), Angelina Atlagic and Slavica Lalicki (costume design), Aleksandar Sanja Ilic and Isidora Zebeljan (music), Slobodan Lazin (lighting design), Dusica Knezevic (applied music), Borislav Belic (stage sculpture), Ljubisav Milunovic (stage painting), Nijaz Memis (stage make-up), Vasilije Popov (stage footwear), Nikola Krnjulac (stage carpentry), Ljiljana Blagojevic (architecture) and Vesna Pavlovic (photography).

Miodrag Tabacki, Olgica Milunovic and Slobodan Masic received special awards of the 1st Biennial of Stage Design.

Special Biennial award was posthumously dedicated to Petar Stojkovic for his lifetime achievements in the creation and realization of stage lighting.
